Overview for Seniors, or for those looking for info for Seniors
For those not connected yet
It’s well known that seniors are the fastest
growing group of internet users, and also have
the most time to spend online. However, it's also a fact
that many still not are connected to the web and for that reason we also offer a printed version
of the guide.
Services Guide - printed or online
If you are helping someone that's not connected or
if you just prefer to read the information
on paper, we now offer a printed version of the Services Guide.
services guide. Printed and bound copies will be available on the website as of mid July 2006 and
in Chapters stores starting shortly after that. The guide lists over 900 services specific
to seniors in the Ottawa area. Many of the services themselves are not online but they can still be listed
in the guide, so there is much more here than if it only showed websites.
Staying in your own home!
For those seniors in their own homes and who would prefer to stay there, the services guide can be pure gold
as there are all kinds of services listed to help you in that regard. From making modifications to your home,
helping with yard work or cleaning, help with groceries or meals, rides, moving and downsizing help, estate
services, videos and/or books delivered to your home, re-assurance, seniors discounts, you'll find it all in
the Ottawa Seniors 2006 Services Guide. If you are online, you can even use the search box and search
for keywords to help you find stuff. Click here to
search the online guide now or choose Services Guide from the menu in the upper left corner of
any screen on the site.
Retirement Residences
We currently have the largest database anywhere of Ottawa Retirement Residences online. Just
click here to view the index or choose
Retirement Residences from the upper left menu of any page on the site. You'll find details of
more than 125 residences, including pictures, contact information and website and email addresses if they
have one. You can search through multiple categories, search by features, and there is also a keyword
search utility where you can simply enter keywords as well as other facility details. We do not charge
facilities to be in our database.
Ottawa Real Estate
If your planning to downsize, or selling or renting your home, you can put up a complete real estate
listing with photos and have
it displayed randomly across the more than 50,000 pages per month displayed on Ottawa Seniors. Even if you're
listed with a real estate agent, this listing can give your property even more exposure. You can place
your listing there currently for 3 months for $29.95. That's cheaper than just 2 day in the
Citizen.
Event Calendar
You can view upcoming events anytime by clicking on the
Event Calendar link in the upper left
menu of any page on the site. From there you can also view events by the month, week or day. You can also scroll
down the calendar and pick a category such as discounts to display only the discount day events. If
your group is holding an event and you'd like to post it on our calendar, click on the Submit your Event link
found on any of the calendar pages. Submission is free for most charitable or community seniors groups.
You can always see a list of today's events on the home page as well. Clicking on any event will get you
more details, and often direction maps and websites if they are available.
You can keep up to date on events by subscribing to our
Free Newsletter.
Articles/News
You can find out more about what's going on by clicking on the
Articles/News link from the upper left
menu of any page on the site. You'll find articles of all types. The most recent ones always appear on
the home page, but if you go to the articles page, you can also do a search by keyword or list articles by
date or category from the archives.
Classifieds
If you've got some items you'd like to get rid of or looking to pick up some, check out the
Classifieds link in the upper left menu of any page.
You can post your items for free, and can take them down when they're gone. You don't have to give out your
phone number or email address. People will contact you through the site and the site will send you an email
while keeping your email address private. The most recent classifieds are always displayed on the home page
as well.
Discussions
Haven't found what you're looking for yet, then check out the
Discussions link in the upper left menu of every
page on the site. Browse through the topics, and just hit the "Post Reply" button to add your two cents
to any topic. To start a new topic, click on the "New Topic" button. You don't have to be a member, but
it's better if you are as you can then edit or correct any posts you've made. Your email address does not
need to be shown and you can use a nickname, so if you'd like to remain somewhat anonymous, you can.
You'd be amazed at what information you have that could help someone else in the community. This site is
for you so feel free to make use of it. The most recent discussion topics are always displayed on the home page
as well.
